Choosing the right contractor

The first and most important decision you need to make regarding your driveway is in choosing the right contractor.

The reputation of the company you hire is more important than the guarantee they offer since the guarantee is only applicable if the company is still in business.Make it your business to find out how established a company is before signing a contract.

Unfortunately, this industry is famous for it’s “fly-by-night” operators.  Every year new contractors spring up with little experience in the paving industry.  Sometimes new companies will disappear and re-appear under another name.

Look in the Yellow Pages to see if the contractor has a listing. If there is no listing you may not be able to find the company should a problem arise.

HINT: A quick and efficient way to determine if a contractor has been around is to consult an old Yellow Pages directory.

Don’t choose a contractor based on price alone!

Ask to see references and be wary of estimates that are much lower than those given by competitors.  Low prices can mean the company plans to skimp on materials.

Remember, “The bitterness of poor quality lasts much longer than the sweetness of low prices!”
